Three Lives

Yvraine was born on a Craftworld and raised conventionally enough — Path of the Seer, modest standing, the long quiet life her Craftworld's priests had foreseen for her. She left the Path and was, by some account, exiled. She wandered. She fell in with the Drukhari and was taken to Commorragh.

In the gladiator pits of the Dark City she was killed by a Wych Cult arena-mistress. As she died, the partially-awakening Aeldari god of the dead — Ynnead — chose her as his first prophet, dragged her soul back from oblivion, and rebuilt her. She is, on her own count, the only Aeldari currently alive who has died and returned with that specific god's blessing on the return.

I have died. I have returned. Ynnead walks behind me.

— Yvraine, founding speech to the first Ynnari

The Ynnari

Yvraine's movement, the Ynnari, draws followers from every Aeldari faction — Craftworld, Drukhari, Harlequin — under the unified banner of Ynnead's coming. The proposition is that Ynnead, the death-god of the Aeldari, will eventually wake fully and consume Slaanesh, restoring the species' stolen souls and ending the Thirst.

The Craftworld establishment has mixed feelings. Most Farseers consider Ynnari theology fragile or actively dangerous. Some consider it the only remaining hope. Eldrad himself has been notably non-committal in public and notably cooperative in private.

The Resurrection

Yvraine's most famous act was assisting Belisarius Cawl in the resurrection of Roboute Guilliman during the Indomitus Crusade. The ritual on Macragge used the Ynnari spiritual technology of the Whispering God — a partial channel to Ynnead — to bridge the gap that Cawl's ten thousand years of medical engineering had not been able to bridge alone.

Guilliman woke. The Imperium has not entirely understood what happened in the temple. Yvraine has not, in subsequent years, fully explained.

M42 Status

Yvraine continues to lead the Ynnari from a mobile court that moves between the Webway and select Aeldari outposts. She is accompanied by the Visarch — a former Aspect Warrior of unknown original Shrine — as personal guard, and by a Gyrinx familiar whose name she does not share.

She and Guilliman maintain irregular communication. Both consider it diplomatically essential. Neither has entirely decided whether they are allies or merely temporary co-belligerents against a worse enemy.

The Three Lives Specifics

Yvraine's three documented pre-Ynnari lives have specific dates: the first in Craftworld Iyanden as Daughter-of-the-Bonesinger (born approximately 730.M41, fled Iyanden in 760.M41 following a personal dispute with the Bone Court that her surviving correspondence does not detail); the second in Commorragh as gladiator-slave of the Cult of the Cursed Blade (acquired by the Cult in 762.M41, fought in the Cult's arenas for approximately 187 Terran years, died in arena combat seventeen documented times and was resurrected by Haemonculus Coven practice after each death); the third in the post-resurrection Ynnari movement (founded approximately 988.M41, ongoing).

The transitions between the lives matter theologically. Each death-and-resurrection cycle in Commorragh, by Aeldari Farseer council assessment, gradually shifted Yvraine's specific psychic-and-biological character toward a state that made her uniquely suitable for Ynnead's eventual selection. The Aeldari Farseer council's classified position is that the Commorragh period was not random suffering — it was Ynnead's specific preparation arrangement.

The Whispering God Reception

Yvraine's specific communications with Ynnead — what the Ynnari call the Whispering God reception — are conducted through a sustained meditative state that Yvraine has refined across the Ynnari movement's institutional history. The reception is not conversational; Yvraine receives specific psychic impressions during the meditative state and translates them into operational guidance for the broader Ynnari movement. The translation is not automatic; Yvraine has, by her classified internal correspondence, indicated that "Ynnead does not speak in words, and the translation has cost me hours of meditation per impression."

The specific content of the receptions has been classified within the Ynnari senior leadership. The Aeldari Farseer council has, in twenty-three classified internal correspondences, requested access to the receptions' specific content. Yvraine has declined every request. Her reasoning, per her response to the council, is that the receptions are operationally vulnerable to interpretation-distortion if extracted from the meditative-state context. The arrangement has held.

Ynnead does not speak in words. The translation has cost me hours of meditation per impression.

— Yvraine, classified internal correspondence

M42 Diplomatic Position

Yvraine has, since the Ynnari movement's founding, become the most-diplomatically-active Aeldari political figure since the pre-Fall era. She has personally conducted communications with Roboute Guilliman on Macragge (approximately fifteen documented meetings since 002.M42), with senior Imperial Cult Inquisitor-Lords (through Ordo Xenos intermediaries on at least seven occasions), with Helbrecht of the Black Templars (one confrontational engagement on Drogan's World in 981.M41, no subsequent contact), and with the Drukhari Kabal of the Black Heart's Vect (twice, with no public outcome).

Her diplomatic position is theologically controversial within the broader Aeldari species. Several Craftworld Farseer councils have, in classified inter-Craftworld correspondence, expressed reservations about the diplomatic activity's specific implications for Aeldari operational doctrine. Yvraine has not modified the diplomatic activity in response. The Ynnari movement continues. The diplomatic engagement continues. Her specific operational priority across the next several Terran decades is, by her classified internal correspondence, "the continued acceleration of Ynnead's awakening."
