Commander Shadowsun

Puretide
O'Shaserra was selected as a child for the Fio'taun school of Puretide — the legendary T'au military philosopher whose pupils now lead the T'au Empire's major commands. Shadowsun and Farsight were classmates at Puretide. Both were considered among the most gifted of his generation. Both became Commanders. Only one stayed loyal to the Ethereals.
Shadowsun took the name from her teacher's observation that she preferred to fight from the shadow side of every engagement — from cover, from misdirection, from the moment the enemy could not yet see her.
The Damocles Gulf
The Damocles Gulf Crusade was the Imperium's first major attempt to suppress T'au expansion in M41. Shadowsun was the on-ground commander for the Sphere of Expansion's defence. The Imperial force was numerically superior and Astartes-supported. The campaign should have, by Imperial planning, been a textbook expansion-cancellation.
It was not. Shadowsun's pattern of feints, withdrawals, and pinpoint strikes — the K'resh ambush in particular, which decapitated an Imperial Guard regiment's command staff in a single coordinated alpha — turned the Crusade into a stalemate that the Imperium eventually abandoned.
The shadow side of the moment is where the moment turns.

The Third Sphere
Shadowsun led the military arm of the Third Sphere Expansion in M42, including operations in the Dovar system, the relief of Agrellan, and the contested withdrawal-and-return campaigns the Imperium and the T'au have been alternately winning and losing for fifty years.
She operates from a XV22 Coldstar battlesuit — a faster-than-standard Crisis variant — accompanied by two Drone bodyguards and a Pathfinder advance team.
Recent Activity
Shadowsun was briefly missing for a five-year period in the early Indomitus Era. T'au and Imperial intelligence both noted the absence; neither could confirm a cause. She returned without explanation and resumed command. The Ethereals, when consulted, indicated that her absence had been at their direction and that further questions would not be productive.
The Imperium continues to regard her as the single most dangerous T'au commander currently active. The T'au continue to regard her as Puretide's legacy made flesh.
The Puretide Inheritance
Commander Shadowsun was one of Puretide's three personally-selected senior apprentices — alongside Farsight and the Aun'el Aun'Va — during the T'au species' M41 military doctrinal consolidation period. Puretide's specific apprenticeship arrangement involved approximately seventeen years of direct personal training at his Mont'yr Bay facility on Vior'la; Shadowsun completed the apprenticeship in approximately 920.M41 and was the most-junior of the three apprentices.
The apprenticeship's specific operational consequence was that Shadowsun inherited Puretide's specific tactical doctrines without the doctrinal modifications that Farsight subsequently developed. Shadowsun has remained a Puretide-orthodox tactical commander throughout her career; her specific tactical preferences for sustained reconnaissance, precision-engagement, and avoidance of sustained close-combat engagement are directly derived from Puretide's specific operational frameworks. The orthodoxy has been operationally productive across the T'au species' M41-M42 expansion period.
Damocles Gulf Specifics
Shadowsun personally commanded the T'au species' Third Sphere Expansion operations against the Imperial Cult in the Damocles Gulf region from approximately 940.M41 onward. The Expansion's specific operational arrangements included T'au species engagement against approximately twenty-three Imperial Cult sectors; Shadowsun's specific operational responsibility was the coordination of Fire Caste military deployments against the engaged sectors. Her tenure produced T'au species territorial gains of approximately fourteen Imperial Cult worlds.
The Expansion's specific operational outcome was politically significant. Shadowsun's personal kill-count during the Expansion exceeded any other Fire Caste commander's per-engagement performance; her specific tactical doctrines were classified by the T'au species' Aun (Ethereal) command as institutional doctrine and have been adopted across the species' Fire Caste training programmes since. The Damocles Gulf engagement's specific Imperial Cult casualty estimate exceeds approximately seventeen million across the engagement's full duration.
M42 Vior'la Position
Shadowsun's M42-era position has been the senior Fire Caste commander of the broader T'au species' post-Rift operational engagements. She has personally commanded T'au species operational engagements in the Nachmund Gauntlet (against the Imperial Indomitus Crusade and Chaos forces simultaneously), in the post-Rift Imperium Nihilus expansion (approximately forty documented sustained operational engagements), and in the species' Aeldari-coordination operations (which Vior'la's specific cultural arrangements had previously been operationally hostile to but which the M42-era operational requirements have made operationally necessary).
Her specific operational coordination with Vior'la's senior Aun command has been productive but has produced sustained Vior'la-specific cultural tensions. Vior'la's specific cultural character emphasises operational autonomy from the broader T'au species' Aun coordination; Shadowsun's specific Aun-coordination preferences have been operationally productive but have generated specific Vior'la-internal political opposition. The opposition has not modified Shadowsun's specific operational arrangements. The arrangement continues.
