Vostroya the World

Vostroya is a freezing industrial world of smog, towering smokestacks, and deep gorge-cities. Ruled by a traditional aristocracy, the Techtriarchs, it is a planet deeply devoted to the Emperor and the Adeptus Mechanicus. The people are hardy, sustained by a culture of honor and relentless labor in the manufactorums, churning out weaponry of exquisite, antiquated quality.

The Firstborn Debt

During the Horus Heresy, Vostroya refused the Emperor's call to arms, prioritizing its factory quotas over sending men. When the war ended, they were judged. To avoid extermination, the planet agreed to an agonizing penance: forevermore, every firstborn child of every Vostroyan family—from the lowest laborer to the highest lord—would be tithed to the Astra Militarum. They fight to repay a debt that can never be wiped clean.

Doctrine of Antique Iron

Vostroyans disdain mass-produced, stamped-metal lasguns. Their wargear is painstakingly hand-crafted, forged with wood and brass, passed down through generations. A Vostroyan guardsman treats his rifle like a holy relic. In battle, they favor dense infantry formations, unleashing perfectly timed volley fire that shreds advancing enemy ranks, standing firm in their ornate carapace armor and fur-trimmed greatcoats.

We died a little during the Heresy. We have spent ten thousand years bleeding to earn back our souls.

— Vostroyan Officer

The Boyar Officer Corps

Leadership in the Firstborn regiments mirrors the aristocratic structure of their homeworld. Officers are drawn from the Boyar nobility—proud, mustache-bearing aristocrats who lead from the front. While arrogant, they are fiercely loyal to their men, viewing the soldiers beneath them as extended family. A Vostroyan commander will order a suicidal charge, but he will be the first one over the barricade.

Honor That Does Not Forget

A Vostroyan never retreats, because his family is watching. The shame of their ancestors is carved into their cultural DNA. During the Fall of Medusa V and the grueling sieges of Armageddon, the Firstborn fought to the last man in the rubble. For Vostroya, duty is a generational burden, and dying for the Emperor is the only acceptable apology.
