Origin & The Knight Worlds
Before the Imperium, humanity seeded the stars. They built Knight armors—agri-machinery turned weapons of war—to protect their colony worlds from the monstrous fauna of the Long Night. Isolated for millennia, these worlds regressed into a rigid, neo-feudal aristocracy. The Knight Houses were born.
When the Great Crusade found them, the Mechanicum and the Imperium absorbed these warrior-kings. They brought chivalry into an age of cosmic horror. A Knight Scion does not fight merely for survival; they fight for honor, lineage, and the oaths of their ancestors.
The Throne Mechanicum
A Knight is smaller than a Titan, standing roughly 9 to 12 meters tall, but its pilot bond is intimately profound. The pilot sits within the Throne Mechanicum, a neural interface that connects them not just to the machine, but to the ghosts of every pilot who sat there before.
When a Scion plunges into the neural link, they hear the voices of their grandfathers. They feel the accumulated courage and fury of generations. This psychic echo enforces the rigid codes of chivalry; to act dishonorably is to disappoint the ancestors physically echoing in your own mind.
The Great Houses
The galaxy is dotted with fiercely proud Knight Houses. House Terryn of Voltoris marches in blue and gold, renowned for their aggressive martial pride. House Raven of Kolossi fields more Knights than any other, strictly allied with the Mechanicus. House Hawkshroud vows oaths of allegiance to those who aid them, never breaking a promise.
Whether sworn directly to the Golden Throne (Questor Imperialis) or bound to the Forge Worlds (Questor Mechanicus), these nobles paint their heraldry large. They want the enemy to know exactly which bloodline is delivering their doom.
The Fall to Chaos
Not all nobles remained true. During the Horus Heresy, the whisper of Chaos found purchase in the arrogance of kings. House Devine's betrayal at Molech broke the Imperial lines. Chaos Knights are a horrific subversion of everything the Houses stand for.
Their Thrones Mechanicum are corrupted, trapping the ancestral ghosts in endless, shrieking torment. A Chaos Knight Scion is often driven mad by the screaming souls of their own honorable forefathers, turning the noble machines into rusty, meat-draped engines of terror.
Knights in the 41st Millennium
As the Great Rift splits the sky, the Knight Houses are called to war more than ever. They are the cavalry of the Imperium. A single lance of Knights charging across a desolate plain, battle-cannons roaring and chain-cleavers revving, can break the back of a chaotic invasion.
They are the last vestige of true nobility in a dying galaxy. They hold the line. They ride to ruin. The ancestors are watching.
My armor is contempt. My shield is disgust. My sword is the wrath of my forefathers. Let them come.
