A Lineage Wiped From the Record

Nothing certain survives of the Red Scorpions' founding or their primogenitor; the Chapter has scoured its own origins from the archives as thoroughly as it scours its flesh. What is known is what the Adeptus Mechanicus measures: the Red Scorpions' gene-seed tithes are returned with an incorruptibility unmatched among the Adeptus Astartes, free of the deviances that plague other lineages. From this single fact the whole Chapter is built. They treat their unsullied blood not as fortune but as covenant, a purity to be defended with fanatical jealousy, and they guard the secret of their parentage so closely that even the Inquisition can only guess at which First Founding Legion, if any, fathered them.

The Fortress Above Zaebus Minoris

The Red Scorpions keep no settled world. Their fortress-monastery is a vast armoured battle-station holding station above the airless moon of the feral world Zaebus Minoris, its location a secret shared with only the highest Administratum officials. From the primitive tribesfolk of Zaebus Minoris below they draw their aspirants, prizing the hardihood bred by an arid, merciless world. Yet recruitment is only the beginning of their obsession: every neophyte is examined, tested and culled with surgical ruthlessness, and any candidate showing the faintest genetic flaw is rejected outright. The Apothecarion, swollen far beyond Codex norms, presides over this winnowing, for among the Red Scorpions the Apothecary is not merely a healer but the keeper of the bloodline's sanctity.

Surgery as Doctrine

War, for the Red Scorpions, is conducted with the same cold precision as their gene-rites. They favour relentless, disciplined assault, advancing behind a wall of armour and bolter-fire and trusting to their incorruptible flesh where lesser warriors would falter against the touch of the warp. Their oversized Apothecarion gives them battlefield resilience few Chapters match, the white-armoured Apothecaries moving through the firefight to recover the precious progenoids of the fallen before the enemy can despoil them. So heavily does the Chapter invest in its medicae cadre that Forge World Mars grants them rare patterns of wargear and Dreadnought hulls, and a Red Scorpions strike force will press an attack with a surgeon's patience, excising the foe like diseased tissue.

Magister Militant of the Badab War

When the renegade Lord Lufgt Huron of the Astral Claws declared the secession of Badab, the Red Scorpions answered the Imperium's call in greater numbers than any other loyalist Chapter. Lord High Commander Carab Culln, who had risen from the feral tribes of Zaebus Minoris to succeed the fallen Lord Ortys, was named Magister Militant, supreme commander of the loyalist host from 904.M41. Culln led from the front through the long campaign that followed, and the mobile star-fort Raptorus Rex secured the vital loyalist staging post at Hallows Point, repelling a raid in late 906.M41. By the war's bitter end the Red Scorpions had been bloodied in dozens of compliance actions against the Tyrant's secessionists.

The Burning of Imperfection

The Red Scorpions' purity is a creed of fire as much as biology. They regard mutation and corruption with a loathing that borders on the pathological, and have been known to exterminate entire human populations judged to be tainted rather than risk contagion, a zealotry that has set them at odds even with other servants of the Throne. Their gene-rites are jealously secret, their Apothecaries near-priestly in authority, and outsiders are admitted to neither. This same uncompromising temper makes them coldly reliable allies of the Ordo Malleus, who value warriors whose flesh the warp cannot easily turn, and grimly feared by any commander whose forces fall under suspicion of the unclean.

Vigil in the Era Indomitus

Into the closing nights of the 41st Millennium the Red Scorpions kept faith with their austere creed, deploying their elite Apothecarion-backed strike forces wherever the Imperium most needed incorruptible steel. Carab Culln remained their Lord High Commander, his authority undimmed since the Badab War, and the Chapter continued to hoard rare Mechanicus wargear earned through the unrivalled quality of its gene-tithes. When the Great Rift split the galaxy and daemon-incursions multiplied, the value of a Chapter whose blood resists the warp's seduction only rose, and the Red Scorpions answered the new darkness as they always have: with the scalpel, the bolter, and an unbending hatred of all that is impure.
