The Ork Empire

Ullanor was the largest Ork empire of the late Great Crusade — a multi-system polity dominated by Warboss Urrlak Urruk whose forces had been resisting Imperial Compliance for decades. The Emperor committed personally to the campaign, fighting beside Horus and the Luna Wolves in the final orbital assault and ground engagements.

The campaign ended with the Emperor and Horus standing together on Ullanor's capital moon, the Ork empire broken, and Urrlak's skull mounted as a trophy. By Crusade-era reckoning it was the single largest military victory of the era.

There is no foe in the galaxy I will not see broken in your name, father.

— Horus Lupercal, attributed Ullanor

The Triumph

The Imperium organised a Triumph ceremony to mark the victory — a public mobilisation of every Crusade Legion that could reach Ullanor in time. Each Legion paraded its banners. Each Primarch attended in person. The Emperor walked among them on a raised dais visible from every angle of the ceremonial plaza.

It was the largest gathering of Primarchs and the Emperor in a single location ever recorded. It was, by every subsequent Imperial measure, the moment the Crusade reached its peak.

The Elevation

At the climax of the Triumph the Emperor announced two things. Horus Lupercal was elevated to Warmaster — supreme commander of all Imperial forces, exceeding every other Primarch by formal hierarchy. And the Emperor was returning to Terra, where He had a project that required His personal attention.

The Emperor did not say what the project was. The Primarchs, including Horus, were not told. The decision created the political vacuum Horus would later fall into.

Aftermath

The Triumph was, in retrospect, the last hour of the Imperium's innocence. Within ten years Horus would be turning to Chaos. Within a generation, the Heresy would have broken the Imperium. The Triumph itself is remembered by surviving loyalist factions as a high point that should have been a beginning rather than an ending.

The Ullanor moon was eventually abandoned and forgotten. In M32 it was reclaimed by Ork forces and became the seed-world of The Beast's eventual WAAAGH!.

The Pre-Triumph Campaign

The Ullanor Triumph was the culminating event of the Ullanor Crusade — the specific Imperial Crusade-era operational engagement that the Imperium had conducted against the Ullanor Ork Empire's arrangements across the eastern fringe galactic region. The Crusade's duration was approximately three Terran years (approximately 002-005 of the Crusade era); the Crusade's composition included approximately sixty Imperial Crusade-era Astartes Legions and the broader Imperial Crusade-era administrative arrangement.

The Crusade's outcomes was the operational destruction of the Ullanor Ork Empire's arrangements. The Empire had been the largest sustained Ork operational arrangement the Imperium had engaged across the Crusade era; the operational outcome's specific institutional significance was that the Imperial Cult had demonstrated the institutional capability to engage and defeat sustained xenos operational arrangements at scales that no previous Imperial operational arrangement had managed.

The Triumph Itself

The Triumph's arrangements was the Emperor's personal ceremonial recognition of Horus as the Crusade's senior commander — the institutional event that elevated Horus to Warmaster rank. The Triumph's arrangements included approximately three days of sustained ceremonial activity, attended by the Emperor personally, by the senior officers of every Crusade-era Astartes Legion, and by approximately seventeen million Imperial Cult administrative-rank personnel.

The Emperor's decisions to elevate Horus to Warmaster rank was institutional. The arrangement granted Horus operational command authority over the Crusade's broader institutional arrangements during the Emperor's period of return to Terra for the Webway Project's specific institutional development. The arrangement was productive across approximately ten Terran years; the arrangement subsequently produced operational consequences (Horus's fall to Chaos) that the Emperor's reasoning had not anticipated.

M42 Status — Lost World

Ullanor's specific post-Heresy operational status has been the subject of approximately seven Imperial Cult intelligence assessments. The world's arrangements were destroyed during the Heresy era; the Imperial Cult's classified internal record indicates that Horus personally engaged Ullanor's arrangements during the Heresy's later years and destroyed the world's broader institutional infrastructure.

Ullanor remains inaccessible in the Indomitus era. The world is located in a region of the galactic-east that the Cicatrix Maledictum's consequences have rendered untraversable across the post-Rift period. The Imperial Cult's position is that the world's status is "presumed-lost; potential operational recovery deferred pending sustained Rift-environmental resolution." The Triumph's specific institutional memory has been preserved through sustained Imperial Cult ceremonial arrangements at Macragge and on Terra; the ceremonies continue.
